1. Welcome
~~~~~~~~~
What is your risk profile?
Most people associate risk with trading on the stock market or
being involved in adventure sports.
Managing risk in the stock market has many parallels with
everyday life.
Trading in the stock market is 80% emotional. One can learn
the theory of trading and be successful on paper, but the
moment one's money is involved then our emotions kick in.
Managing risk in the stock market is very much about trading
to a plan and being aware of one's emotions. Fear and greed
often get in the way.
In our daily life having a vision and plan of our future and
being aware of our emotions can put us in the driver's seat
rather than just being a passenger on our life journey.
2. Reflection
~~~~~~~~~
Trust because you are willing to accept the risk, not because
it is safe or certain.
3. Conversations
~~~~~~~~~~~~
What is the risk in a conversation?
- People might get to know the real me
- I might offend the other person by what I say
- I might get what I ask for
- Someone may actually listen to me
- I will not be heard
- None with some people, lots with other
Experience may have shown us that there are many risks in
having a conversation or there are none.
Many of the risks we perceive are based on our emotional
response. Emotions are part of us, it is the way our brain has
developed over millions of years. (Read Emotional
Intelligence by Daniel Goleman).
Fear is a common element in the perceived risk in a
conversation.
Using the trading analogy, treat each trade/conversation as a
separate event. Be aware of your emotions. Have your plan (to
be yourself), observe what happens and take action.
Each of us has a different risk tolerance, that is part of
being ourselves.
Dare to be or risk being yourself in a conversation.
4. Learning
~~~~~~~~
What is the risk in learning?
- I may have to admit that I do not have an answer or do
not know
- I may learn about myself or another person
- I may have to change my perception of another person
- I may have to change my views
- I might appear stupid or silly
Once again fear is an emotion that can increase our perception
of risk in learning.
Successful traders learn from each trade whether they made a
profit or a loss. They learn to be aware of their emotions
before they enter a trade and whilst they are in the trade.
Being aware of and observing our emotions and being present
can create a great learning opportunity.
The greatest way to learn is to listen to the other person and
also to what is going on inside ourselves.
We have two ears and one mouth. We are geared more to
listening than talking.
If you want to learn more, then ask yourself to WAIT (Why
Am I Talking).
Take a risk and learn from every experience and every person.

TeleLearning Group calls
For the last 2 years one area I have been exploring is
learning with others via a group telephone call. It is similar
to a teleconference in that the technology is the same but the
focus of the call is to learn with each other about a topic
that everyone is interested in. An environment of trust and
respect is created so that learning can occur from each and
everyone on the call. I have worked with people from
various parts of the world on the one call. A wonderful
feeling of a global community develops on the calls.
NB. Each person calls into a central phone number (or
bridge) in either the USA or Australia at their own
expense.
Organisations can benefit from TeleLearning Groups
calls as an adjunct to face to face training/development
without the cost of travel or hiring a room.
TeleLearning calls can tap into the knowledge of individuals
that cannot be captured and stored in a central database.
